Investigating the Lethal Effects of Lead Chloride (PbCl2) on Blood Indices, Liver Enzymes and Evaluation on Cytochrome P450 Gene Expression in Common Carp (Cyprinus carpio)

Authors

Abstract:

The aim of this study was to investigate the sub-lethal effects Lead Chloride (PbCl2) on blood indices, liver enzymes, cytochrome P450 gene expression in common carp. For this purpose, Fish with a mean weight of 7 33±0.33 g were prepared and divided into 3 treatments and a control group and exposed to effective concentrations (0.05, 0.15, 0.25 mg / l) of sublethal toxicity for a period of 14 days. At the end of the experiment, sampling was done randomly. The results showed that the level of AST and ALT enzymes significantly decreased compared to the control group (P<0.05) whileThe level of ALP increased significantly (P<0.05). The results of hematology test showed that the level of white blood cells, hematocrit and hemoglobin did not change significantly with increasing the concentration of lead chloride compared to the control group; but they had a slight upward trend compared to the control group (P <0.05). Also, the amount of red blood cells, monocytes, total protein and serum immunoglobulin decreased significantly compared to the control group (P <0.05). Levels of lymphocytes, basophils and total mucus protein increased significantly compared to the control group (P <0.05). Mucus lysozyme had a slight decreasing trend compared to the control group but had no significant effect (P <0.05). The expression of P450 gene in liver and gills increased significantly compared to the control group (P> 0.05). In this study, the relative expression of cytochrome P450 gene in liver tissue was significantly higher than gill tissue (P <0.05). In general, it was found that lead chloride has destructive effects on the liver of common carp.

Effects of aluminum on some tissue enzymes of gills, liver and muscles in common carp (Cyprinus carpio)

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of aluminum on the tissue enzymes of gills, liver and muscles in common carp. In this study, the effects of sub lethal levels of aluminum on metabolic enzymes, Aspartate aminotransferase, Alanine aminotransferase and alkaline phosphatase (AST, ALT and ALP) in organs including gills, liver and muscles of common carp (Cyprinus carpio) were eva...

Common Carp, Cyprinus carpio

The common carp (Cyprinus carpio) belongs to the family Cyprinidae. In nature, carp live in the middle or lower reaches of a river with slow currents, or in marshes. Their habitats are usually weedy areas with a muddy bottom. Carp fry feed on zooplankton such as rotifers and copepods, but as they grow up they become benthic feeders, feeding on animals and other organic material. The cyprinids h...

Effects of Sub-Lethal Toxicity of Paraquat on Blood Biochemical Parameters of Common Carp, Cyprinus carpio (Linnaeus, 1758)

Background: Paraquat is a non-selective contact herbicide, widely used to control weeds in agriculture farms and aquatic plants in surface waters. Paraquat can have adverse effects on the health of aquatic organisms. The aim of this study was to detect the alterations in the blood biochemical parameters of common carp exposed to sub-lethal concentrations of commercial formulations of paraquat. ...

The effect of transport on biochemical and haematological indices of common carp (Cyprinus carpio L.)

The effect of 12 h transport on the biochemical and haematological profiles of three-years-old common carp was investigated. There was a significant increase (P < 0.01) in ammonia, chloride, phosphorus, lactate dehydrogenase, aspartate aminotransferase and creatine kinase, and a significant decrease (P < 0.05) in total proteins. The levels of glucose (P < 0.01), lactate (P < 0.05), alanine amin...
